The Bruff branch of the Bank of Ireland which is one of the six projects to receive funding from government
SIX LIMERICK communities have received early Christmas presents following an allocation of more than €1million for works.
The communities of Herbtertstown, Bruff, Ardagh, Athea, Croom and Foynes will benefit from a capital investment announced by the Minister for Community and Rural Development Heather Humphreys.
Limerick TD and Minister of State Patrick O’ Donovan says the funding will be allocated to Limerick City and County Council, who submitted applications to the department.
He stated that the applications have been made in conjunction with the local communities themselves by engaging with TDs in Limerick.
“This is good news for Ardagh, Bruff, Herbtertstown, Athea, Croom and Foynes, however, other communities that are anxious to see projects develop can do so as well. They need to start engaging with the Council and the other State Agencies and in doing that if they want help they can make contact with my office and we will be delighted to help," he added.
Bruff received an allocation of €250,000 to carry out works in the old Bank of Ireland building that will see it being turned into a remote working hub.
Ardagh received €250,000 to redevelop the Main Street in the village and Herbertstown has been allocated €495,000 towards the cost of the redevelopment of the old creamery in the village.
Croom and Athea have been allocated €50,000 and €41,000 respectively, for feasibility studies, while Foynes has received €100,000 for streetscape works.
The funding which has been made available by Minister Humphreys comes after investment into several Limerick communities for the Community Centre development scheme.
Mr O’ Donovan said that the county has "so much more" to show Minister Humphreys for future investment, including work that is completed, in progress or already planned.
"We will use it as an opportunity to showcase Limerick and naturally ask for more money," he concluded.
