February proves steady for car sales in Limerick

SIMI says 2,082 new cars have been sold in 2018

THE number of new cars sold in Limerick last month increased slightly when compared to February of last year.

Official statistics released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show 616 new cars were sold in Limerick during February compared to 600 during the same month in 2017.

A total of 2,082 new cars were sold across Limerick during the first two months of 2018.

This compares to 2,149 during the same period last year.

According to SIMI, cars manufactured by Ford (296), Toyota (258) and Volkswagen (206) were the most popular in Limerick during January and February.

The three most popular models were Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and Nissan Qashqai. 

According to the SIMI fogures, just six new electric cars were sold in Limerick during January and February while 100 hybrid cars (electric/petrol) were registered for the first time.
