THERE has been two concerning cases of fraud involving a phone call and concert tickets in Limerick.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said:
"A woman in her fifties received a call from someone claiming to be from her bank. During the call, she was asked to confirm her account number, which she did.
"Shortly afterwards, she received a legitimate call from her bank about suspicious activity — unfortunately, money had already been taken from her account."
Sgt O'Halloran added that this highlights how convincing these scams can be. "We would strongly advise people never to share personal or banking details over the phone unless they are absolutely certain who they are dealing with."
There was also another incident of fraud involving concert tickets.
"This is something we covered last week also. In this case, a woman in her early twenties attempted to buy concert tickets through a social media platform," said the crime prevention officer.
"She agreed a price with a seller and transferred the money, but once payment was made, the seller cut off all contact and the tickets never arrived."
Sgt O'Halloran concluded: "We would urge people to only purchase tickets from trusted and verified sources, and to be cautious when dealing with private sellers online."
