PICTURES: Thousands march through Limerick city in solidarity with Natasha O'Brien

Large crowds inspired by brave assault victim

THOUSANDS gathered at the protest and march organised by Rosa in Limerick city on Saturday afternoon, which was inspired by Natasha O'Brien.

Ms O'Brien, aged 24, was beaten unconscious by soldier Cathal Crotty, aged 22, of Parkroe Heights, Ardnacrusha on Limerick's O'Connell Street in 2022.

Hours later Mr Crotty boasted on Snapchat, "Two to out her down, two to put her out". He walked free from Limerick Circuit Court on Wednesday after receiving a fully suspended jail sentence.

In a social media post after the protests in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway, Rosa - Socialist Feminist Movement, said: "Thanks to the thousands who protested today and most especially to Natasha, an exemplary young woman who actually addressed the protest in Limerick today and led the march — inspiring."

A further protest is planned outside the Dáil this Tuesday, June 26 at 6pm.
