Ronan Cassidy and Baz Ashmawy at the Irish Film and Television Academy awards
A LIMERICK filmmaker had an exciting night as he won a prestigious prize alongside one of his colleagues.
Ronan Cassidy, who lives in Raheen, won the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) award for Best Live Action Short Film, alongside fellow filmmaker Gregory Burrowes for their film Calf.
Written and directed by Jamie O'Rourke, Calf was funded by Screen Ireland and Virgin Media. The film was shot in Kildimo and tells the story of a sinister farm accident, which leaves the lead character, Cáit, with a terrible decision to make.

The two producers eagerly waited in the Dublin Convention Centre audience amongst the best and brightest of Irish film and TV talent for the winners to be announced.
Calf was selected as a winner out of six shortlisted films.
Ronan and Greg, were delighted with the win.
“It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind, but we are really proud to bring the IFTA home to Limerick.
“This film was very much a Limerick production, as we shot here and most of the crew were from the Mid-West. We are really dedicated to building film talent here, and to win on the night feels like an amazing achievement,” said Ronan.
Carbonated Comet Productions were founded in 2017 and since then have produced twelve funded short films, won multiple awards and screened at festivals all over the world.
They currently have a Screen Ireland film and two RTÉ documentaries in post-production.
