A ONE-WAY traffic system is being considered for Fairgreen Road, the local authority has revealed.
A number of proposals for the route are being considered by Limerick City and County Council.
The road is in the Garryowen area of the city.
Numerous traffic calming measures, alongside the one-way traffic system, are proposed options.
Public consultations opened from Friday, January 12, and will run until February 9.
The plans can be viewed on the Council website or in person at the Council headquarters in Dooradoyle.
Labour Councillor Conor Sheehan said he has been working with a group of residents in the area for the past number of years.
“The road is very narrow, it’s like a horse and cart track. It’s a rat run. It runs parallel to St Patrick’s Road. But it doesn’t have any traffic lights or any traffic calming measures,” Cllr Sheehan said.
“There is an awful lot of speeding that goes on, on that road. So I was working with the council to come up with something to try and calm this down. So we are looking at possibly turning this into a one-way,” he added.
Cllr Sheehan said that he stressed that this was only a possibility, as it was important for the council to get the views of local residents and take it on board, which is where the public consultation comes into play.
He said he would encourage all the local residents to put in a submission either online, by phone or in person.
“It’s important that the people who live there get to have their say,” Cllr Sheehan said.
