Public asked for opinions on new walk and cycle lanes in Limerick

Proposed plans for a pedestrian and cycle link in the city

THE PUBLIC are being invited to make their views known on proposals to improve pedestrian and cycle linkage in one Limerick city location.

The works, between the Ballinacurra Road and Rosbrien Road through the Baggot Estate Nature Park, are proposed to enhance the pedestrian, cycling and recreational potential of the park.

The proposed facility will provide onward connectivity to the city centre via the South Circular Road Active Travel Scheme and other connecting routes throughout Limerick’s Active Travel network.

An in-person consultation event will be held at County Hall in Dooradoyle on Tuesday, September 12, offering people the chance to look at proposed options for the works.

A virtual public consultation room is to go live on the same date and will remain open for a two-week period, until Tuesday, September 26.

The proposals will also be available to view in hard copy form in County Hall, Dooradoyle and City Hall, Merchant’s Quay over the same timeframe.

Senior Engineer with the Active Travel team at Limerick City and County Council, Sean McGlynn, said: “Rolling out and expanding the Active Travel network on the west side of Limerick city is beginning to take shape.

“This proposed scheme, through the Baggot Estate Nature Park, is intended to enhance the attractiveness of short walking and cycling trips for those living in the areas.

“Significant work has been undertaken so far to bring these works to a concept development stage.

“We’re now looking to gather local feedback and views to ensure issues relevant to the community are addressed, as the project moves forward.”

The proposed project is to be delivered by Limerick City and County Council’s Active Travel team and is being funded by the NTA.
