TRIBUTES have been paid to a Limerick man described as ‘one of the world's good people’, who died tragically following a two-vehicle collision.

Mark Mc Mullen, who was in his early 40’s, was tragically killed when the van he was driving collided with a lorry on the N24 Limerick to Waterford road.

The married father-of-one was travelling between Barne Lodge and Condon's Cross in Tipperary on the morning of Monday, July 31, when the collision occurred.

Mark was a past pupil of St Clements College and a former Garryowen rugby player. It is understood that he grew up in the Castletroy area, then later lived in Castleconnell, before moving to The Grove, Bruff.

Predeceased by his mother Mary, Mark will be sadly missed by his father Tony, his ‘heartbroken’ wife Jennifer and son Noah, as well as sister and brothers, parents-in-law Mike and Marian, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, work colleagues at Viatel, and ‘wide circle of friends’.

Mayor of Limerick Cllr Gerald Mitchell was one of those who left a tribute, saying: “My deepest condolences to all the family relations and friends, may Mark's gentle soul rest in peace.”

Other tributes online included: “Tony, Neil, Darragh, Jenna, Damien and Cillian, I am so very sorry for your loss.

“As an old friend of Jenna's, I have very fond memories of Mark being the cheeky big brother, always full of his fun. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”

A former classmate shared his fond memories of Mark, saying: “Sincerest condolences to all Mark's family, Mark was in my class in St. Clements way back in 1990.

“I can still see him in that tiny classroom we had, a cheeky grin and chomping into sweets before class started in the morning. Always up for a bit of craic. Rest in Peace Mark.”

Giving an example of how ‘gentle and considerate’ Mark truly was, another wrote: “Mark was one of the people that was with me during a difficult time in my life, he walked with me until I could walk alone. RIP.”

While another friend added: “The world is a darker place without Mark, one of the world's good people and a great support to myself and many others. He will be sorely missed. Thank you my friend for all your help. RIP.”
