Company fined for selling whiskey at Limerick pub while trading without a licence

Solicitor Aileen Mee, prosecuting, told Judge Peter White the case related to the Wickham Bar, Wickham Street which was 'trading without a licence' when the inspection was carried out

A COMPANY has been fined for selling alcohol at a pub in Limerick city centre despite not having a valid licence to to so at the time.

The Wickham Pub Company Ltd was prosecuted before Limerick District Court arising from a Revenue detection last summer.

Solicitor Aileen Mee, prosecuting, told Judge Peter White the case related to the Wickham Bar, Wickham Street which was 'trading without a licence' when the inspection was carried out.

After a director of the company confirmed a guilty plea was being entered, she proceeded to outline the facts of the case.

Judge White was told two undercover Revenue officers entered the premises on June 20, 2025 and ordered a soda and whiskey. Having paid for the drinks, they requested a receipt - at which point they identified themselves to the person behind the bar.

Having made further enquiries, it was established there was no licence in place on the day and arrangements were then made to meet with the company director to a number of days later.

Ms Mee said the defendant company has no previous convictions and that it was "putting its hands up at the first opportunity".

Having formally recorded a conviction, Judge White imposed the minimum fine of €632.50, giving the company six months to pay.
