Albert Wong has sadly passed away
A “total gentleman” is how former takeaway owner Albert Wong has been remembered.
Mr Wong, who passed away last Monday, owned the Golden Gate Chinese eaterie in Thomondgate’s High Road, and was widely respected on the city’s northside.
Former Mayor of Limerick Kevin Kiely, who lives in the area was a regular customer at the take-out.
“I used to call down there a lot,” he said.
“He was a very nice fella. He made a great contribution to deserving causes in the immediate area of Thomondgate and other parts of the city. Everything was excellent with the food. He had a great business there. I'm just shocked. Nothing really prepares for this news. He was a young man too.
“I was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a total gentleman, and a nice man. I’d like to send my sympathies to his family - he’ll be a great loss,” said Mr Kiely.
Albert Wong lived in his later years at Lisheen Homes in Caherdavin.
Formerly of Hong Kong, he passed away at Milford Care Centre.
Predeceased by his son Andrew, he's sadly missed by wife Gao Qun, their son Yi Chen Wong, daughter Christine, her partner Richard, sons Jonathan and Nathan, grandson Theo, their mother Caroline, cousins Kwong and Kent, nieces, nephews, cousin Amy, his mother Man Lai, brother Tak Leung and his family, sisters Kit Ching, Christine and Connie and their families, other relatives and friends.
His life was celebrated at a funeral service on Thursday last.
