The community safety wardens are expected to provide a visible presence across the city

As part of an initiative by Mayor John Moran, the safety wardens aim to provide a visible presence in Limerick.

While they will not have legal powers, they will have a hotline to gardai.

Paul Moroney, the community safety co-ordinator at the local authority confirmed the staff have been recruited.

“The initiative promotes safer, more inclusive public spaces and stronger community ties,” he told members of the metropolitan district at a council meeting.

The community safety wardens will assist at safeguarding vulnerable individuals, tackling violence against women and girls, awareness around drink spiking, bystander interventions and preventing sexual harassment.
