Land issue put to bed in Limerick town after 45 years

The property at Ballywilliam, Rathkeale has been owned by the local authority for nearly 45 years

AN ISSUE regarding the ownership of a property in a Limerick town has finally been put to bed after 45 years.

Councillors at the Adare/Rathkeale district of Limerick City and County Council have approved the disposal of the Freehold Interest relating to a dwelling house in Rathkeale.

Until now, the council has been the legal owner of the Freehold Interest in the property which is located at Ballywilliam.

Under the Tenant Purchase Scheme, the property was originally purchased on May 1, 1978, meaning the original purchaser only owned the dwelling house, not the land it was situated on.

The current owner of the property has now sought to purchase the Freehold Interest in the property and has agreed to pay the appropriate fee of €195.42 in accordance with the scheme.

The Section 183 notice will now be brought to the full council for approval.
