Deaths in Limerick: Wednesday, December 11

The death has occurred of Very Rev Canon John Fitzgibbon of Askeaton, Co Limerick and Lusk, Co Dublin.

He passed away on Tuesday, December 10, in his 97th year, peacefully in the Mater Hospital.

Predeceased by his parents Tom and Olive Fitzgibbon, sisters Betty Madigan, Celestine Hanley, Patsy Downes, Mary Meade; his nephews and nieces, Ken and Niall Hanley and Bridgette Murphy.

Deeply regretted by his loving nephews and nieces, Adrian and Timothy Hanley, Kieran and Cyril Madigan, Eleanor, Clark, Barbara and Vivienne Downes, grandnephews and nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces, cousins, friends, parishioners from the parishes of Lusk, Dolphin's Barn, Edenmore, Finglas, Arklow, Ballyfermot and also Peamount Hospital and the Daughters of Charity, Cabra, Archbishop Dermot Farrell and his brother priests of the Diocese of Dublin.

Reposing at St MacCullin's Church, Lusk on Friday, December 13 from 4-5:45pm followed by prayers of reception at 6pm.

Canon John's Concelebrated Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday, December 14, morning in St MacCullin's Church, Lusk at 10:30 am, followed by burial afterwards in Kilcornan Cemetery, Co Limerick, arriving at approximately 3:30 pm.

The death has occurred of Geraldine Lee Hamilton of Windsor Court, Castletroy View and late of 15 East Singland Road, Garryowen.

She passed away on Tuesday, December 10, peacefully at University Hospital Limerick.

Beloved wife of John. Dearly loved mother of Cyril and Jennifer. Sadly missed by her son-in-law Seamus, her grandchildren Lee, Shea, Aimee, Emma, Lauryn, Luke, and Sonny, her great-granddaughter Maddison, her brothers Michael, Walter, Cyril, her sister Mary, nephews, nieces, and her extended family and friends. Predeceased by her sister Rita.

May she rest in peace.

Reposing at Thompson's Funeral Home, Thomas St, Limerick on Friday, December 13 from 7:15-8:15pm.

Arriving at St Patrick’s Church, Clare St, Limerick for Requiem Mass on Saturday, December 14 at 12 noon, followed by cremation service at 2pm at Shannon Crematorium, where all are welcome to attend.

Family flowers only, please.


The death has occurred of Mary McNamara (née Cummins) of 15 Moorpark Street, Birr, Co Offaly and formerly of 21 Wolfe Tone Street, Limerick.

She passed away peacefully in her 95th year on Tuesday, December 10, in the tender care of the wonderful staff at The Park Nursing Home, Castletroy, Limerick.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Jimmy, her sister and brothers.

She will be sadly missed by her sons and daughter; John, Máirín and Seamus, daughters-in-law Katina and Anne, her cherished grandchildren; Daryl, Laurie, Liam, Ellen, Caimin and Ciarán, Daryl’s wife Nasim and great-granddaughter Saoirse, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May she Rest In Peace.

Reposing at Boyd’s Funeral Home, Birr this Saturday, December 14, from 5-7pm.

Removal from Boyd’s Funeral home on Sunday morning at 11:30am.

To arrive at St Brendan’s Church, Birr for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.

Burial afterwards in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr.
