Gardai have launched an investigation into the criminal damage incident

TWO masked men armed with weapons burst into a busy city centre pub, Limerick Live has learned.

The shocking incident occurred at Rasher’s Bar, Upper Gerald Griffin Street, on Saturday night.

It is understood the men, who wore balaclavas to hide their faces, had a pitch fork and shovel.

It is thought they damaged the bar counter and taps and broke windows before making their escape.

There are no reports of any injuries caused to bar staff or customers but it was a very frightening experience for the patrons of the popular watering hole.

Following a media query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson confirmed gardai received a report of an incident of criminal damage that occurred at a business premises on Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick city on Saturday, September 12 at approximately 9.45pm.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

CCTV is being harvested and viewed by investigating officers.

It is understood that one line of enquiry being followed by gardai is that the two men were refused entry or were not served in the pub earlier in the night and they returned to cause destruction.
