Boost for Clarina with key piece of infrastructure on the way

WORK on a long-awaited bus shelter in Clarina is expected to kick off in the coming days.

The shelter was originally secured in 2023 for the village, but progress on this was delayed due to circumstances beyond the control of Limerick City and County Council.

Local Fine Gael councillor Dan McSweeney has confirmed a land agreement is now in place, paving the way for the progression of the project.

"I am delighted that an agreement has now been reached, and I want to sincerely thank the local landowner for their positive engagement in recent months, which has helped make this small project a reality for the local community,” he said.

Cllr McSweeney said the local community has waited too long for what he described as a "simple piece of essential infrastructure”.

"I have spent significant time in recent years pushing this as a priority project with the executive of Limerick City and County Council. I look forward to seeing works commence in the coming days and the new bus shelter delivered for the benefit of Clarina village and the surrounding area,” he concluded.

Clarina is served primarily by bus line 314, which connects the village to Mungret, Dooradoyle and the city centre.

It also heads along the N69 serving Kildimo, Pallaskenry, Askeaton, Shanagolden, Foynes and Glin, with some services extending to Ballybunion.
