Community engagement event proves a hit with all ages

FARMERS who bought or sold cattle at Kilmallock Mart on bank holiday Monday also came home with lots of farm safety and crime prevention advice.

A successful garda community engagement event was held by members of Limerick County CEA (Community Engagement Area), Roads Policing Unit and the Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, who co-ordinated the event.

Bruff-based Garda Inspector Gearoid Thompson said hundreds of patrons to the mart were met by gardai who gave advice on crime prevention, farm safety, road safety and property marking. The flashy Operation Nexus car was also on display.

“An Garda Siochana were delighted as usual to be supported by Diarmuid Cronin, of Muintir na Tire, with his laser property marking machine.

“The display had both the laser and hammer action - with thanks to Limerick City and County Council - property marking machines with great feedback received from these displays.

“Children attending were delighted with the Garda pencils and highlighters for when they go back to school after mid-term break,” said Insp Thompson, who described it as a very positive community engagement event.

“My thanks to Sgt O’Halloran for the organisation of the event, Sgt Murphy, Bruff CE, and her members and Sgt Miniter, Roads Policing Unit and his members for their valued input and Diarmuid Cronin, of Muintir na Tire, for his assistance,” concluded Insp Thompson.
