COUNCILLOR Michael Collins is one of three current councillors in the Newcastle West area to have retained his seat and he has gotten through on the first count.
The Fianna Fáil councillor came in with 2,012 first preference votes, giving him 87 surplus votes.
Speaking to Limerick Live after the results were in, he said it has been a challenging build-up to today and a tough campaign, bearing in mind his own health concerns, as well as the demands of a busy canvass.
He thanked everyone on his campaign team and all those who believed in him and gave him their vote.
Supported by his family, there were cheers and scenes of great elation as Cllr Collins' name was called out.
Cllr Collins said that he never takes a vote for granted.
The quota for count one for the Newcastle West area was 1,925.
