YOUNG city soccer stars have received a top civic honour after their making history with a cup win.
City Hall was a sea of green jerseys as Mayor Francis Foley afforded a civic reception to southside club Pike Rovers's under-12s.
This is after they beat St Kevin's last year to land the Schoolboys/Schoolgirls FAI Cup last year.
Each player received a personal letter of congratulations from Limerick's first citizen, with the reception set up at the request of councillor Frankie Daly.
Speaking following the ceremony, joint manager Dom Lipper said: “We had a five year plan, but it came to the fore a lot faster than we thought. We've got a good bunch of kids, some very good players there. It made our job very easy.”
Co-manager Frank Stewart revealed he has got a tattoo on his leg recognising the team:
“It's a fantastic achievement and one which won't he said.be forgotten,” he said.
