Pike Rovers 2
Nenagh AFC 1
Following a 2-0 defeat to Nenagh in a recent league game, Pike Rvs were determined to make amends when they hosted the Tipperary side in the MFA Cup on Saturday evening. They achieved their goal but it took a late comeback to secure a battling win.
Nenagh’s Matthew O’Gorman forced a fine save from Sam Casey in the opening minutes and at the other end Ruari Morgan’s header rattled the crossbar.
Second half saw Pike start on the front foot and it looked like Dylan Murphy was about to break the deadlock showing great skill to create space in the congested Nenagh however he couldn’t direct his shot on target.
Nenagh went ahead on the hour mark after great play by Kieran O’Brien driving into the Pike box untouched and his strike was saved by Casey however the alert Brian Tracey was on hand to score the rebound.
Approaching the final ten minutes the momentum swung Pike’s favour following the dismissal of a Nenagh player for a second booking.
From the resulting free kick, Pike went short and created space for the dangerous Amadasun to drift down the line and he delivered a cross into the area and Ethan Joyce timed his run to perfection to bring the game level.
Shane Finucane came close five minutes from time however his goal bound shot was blocked by Conor McCormack.
With the game destined for extra time, Joe Murphy played a superb ball through the lines to Alex Keating who unselfishly squared the ball across the box to Dylan Murphy who was all alone at the back post and he made no mistake.
