SIX points to his name in his first Irish Wire Products Senior Football Championship final, it is no wonder Ronan Quirke had a huge smile on his face.
Quirke top-scored for the winners with 0-6 as Caseys won the SFC for the ninth time, defeating Kildimo-Pallaskenry by two points in a thrilling finish.
“Look at the buzz around there,” he said amid joyous scenes on the pristine Mick Neville Park surface after the game.
“It's just savage. Just to get that win after the long year we had, it's just great.
“We're pushing - I'm only pushing three years, but there's some lads on the team that have been playing for about 20 years,” the 22-year-old added. “It's just massive for the club.”
When Cathal Downes bundled the ball home for his side’s second goal with just three minutes to play, it was a top-point game. But the Abbeyfeale men were able to hold on for the victory.
“We never died down when they got the goal,” Quirke said, thrilled with how the side showed maturity to see out the final moments.
With the pitch mobbed in blue and white after the game it was clear how much it meant to both players and supporters.
“Our town is all football, football, football,” Quirke said. “Kildimo is football and hurling, we're just football. It's just great to see lads around there) just big into football for years and years.
“Just waiting for the cup to come back to Abbeyfeale, it's just great, it's massive.”
