After losing the final last year, Doon lifted the Premier Junior A Hurling Championship trophy

DOON won the battle of east Limerick, claiming the Woodlands House Hotel Premier ‘A’ Hurling Championship title, defeating Caherline 3-12 to 0-10 at a rainy Cappamore.

In difficult conditions in front of a big crowd, the men in red were full value for their win having led for the majority of the hour.

While they were wasteful in the first quarter, goals before the break from Denis Blackmore and Tom Ryan saw them enjoy a 2-7 to 0-3 interval lead.

Secondary school student Blackmore scored a hat trick in the semi-final win over Tournafulla and showed his goal-scoring touch with a neat finish from a tight angle.

Ryan showed great awareness for the second green flag. The initial shot was well saved Jack Enright but Ryan was quickest to react and pulled on the ball into the back of the net to put his side in an extremely comfortable position at the change of ends.

Darragh Stapleton was in scoring form, his accuracy from placed balls ensuring the winners kept a comfortable lead throughout the second half.

For Caherline, they kept fighting until the end. Captain Pauric Wixted and free-taker Hugh Murnane combined for nine of their 10 points - the other coming from an overhit Kevin Wixted free as Caherline chased a late goal his strike was deflected over the bar by Daire Ryan.

Their fate was already sealed before Aidan Moloney struck an injury time goal to seal an impressive success for last year's beaten finalists.

After losing the final last year, there was no stopping Doon here, led by man of the match Patrick Cummins.

Despite the defeat, Caherline will represent Limerick in the Munster JHC. They will have home advantage against Dr Crokes on November 14.
