Spillane's tobacco factory was located in Sarsfield Street on the site of what was Dunnes Stores, now UL's city centre campus

A TALK on the history of Limerick’s tobacco industry is to take place in the city this Tuesday evening.

The Limerick Historical Society welcome University of Limerick academic Dr Sean Whitney to the Redemptorists Hall at South Circular Road in the city on Tuesday, November 19 at 8pm.

Tony Browne of the Historical Society says the talk will look at Spillane’s tobacco factory, Sarsfield Street and Clune’s, Denmark Street, among others. All are welcome to the free talk, the latest in Limerick Historical Society’s winter programme.

For more information, call Tony on 061-228071.
