Doon looking to go one better in Premier Junior Hurling final
Darragh Stapleton, who played in last year’s Senior Hurling Championship final, is expected to line out at center forward for Doon
IT MAY involve one club’s second string, but the Woodlands House Hotel Premier Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship final is a clash that have peaked local interest in east Limerick.
In Cappamore at 1pm, Caherline take on Doon.
The sides met back in round 1 where Caherline were 0-20 to 0-19 winners in Kilteely.
A lot of hurling has been played since then with Doon notching six wins on the trot.
The only blot in the blue and white copybook is the round 5 loss to Dromcollogher-Broadford - a day where Caherline had their semi-final spot already secured.
That semi-final saw the men captained by Pauric Wixted defeat a Castletown-Ballyagran side who were bidding for back-to-back promotions.
The men in blue also have Kevin Wixted and Andrew Brennan key to their success today.
For Doon, a quarter-final win over Monaleen was followed up with a six-point success over Tournafulla to book their place in the decider.
Darragh Stapleton, who played in last year’s Senior Hurling Championship final, is expected to line out at center forward for the men in red.
They are captained from center back by Sean Moloney and also have the Patrick Cummins in their defence.
All-Ireland winner Richie English is part of the management team for Doon who are looking to go one better than last year, when they lost this final to Knockaderry.
No matter the outcome today, Caherline will progress to represent Limerick in the Munster Junior Championship.
They will take on Dr Crokes on November 14 in the provincial semi-final at a Limerick venue, potentially at their home ground in Caherconlish.
