A FRIEND of Lee Reeves has shared that the Limerick boxer is continuing to progress and “moving a lot”.

Former boxer Jonathan O’Brien has been using his social media platform to share updates on the Roxboro native’s recovery.

This Friday morning, October 23, he shared that, since they removed the tracheostomy from Lee’s neck, the 31-year-old has been swallowing and coughing by himself.

“The last couple of nights he’s been fantastic,” Jonathan said.

Lee has been in hospital since being knocked out in a fight in the 3Arena on August 1.

He was recently transferred to University Hospital Limerick from hospital in Dublin.

Jonathan added that Lee’s doctors have “upped the physio” and joyfully shared that Lee has been “moving a lot”.

“He’s moving both hands, fingers, his legs are kicking out. I know these are reactions, but they’re saying it’s stimulating the brain and the brain’s getting more stimulated,” Jonathan explained.

“It’s amazing news for everybody, for the family, for all of us that are supporting him and waiting for Lee to get out of this bed and get back to the gym. It’s like he wants to get up and get running guys.”

Jonathan also shared that Lee sat up, and added that, though it’s just a reaction, it still means that the brain is getting stimulated.

He compared it to “a car getting jumped”.

“There’s going to be an end story to Lee Reeves,” he said. “This isn’t it. This is the start for Lee Reeves. I know it’s a bad ting that’s happened to him, but there’ll be a greater story at the end of this if Lee comes fully right back out.”
