TOMMY Barrett’s Treaty United shared the points in a frustrating 1-1 stalemate away to UCD this Friday night in the SSE Airtricity League First Division.

Lee Devitt’s 50th minute goal had the Shannonsiders looking good, having played the entire second half with an extra man following Killian Callioce’s straight red card just after the restart.

But Adam Brennan’s equaliser eight minutes from time confined the Markets Field based side to a fourth game without a win.

The opening chance of a quiet first half fell to the Shannonsiders when a fourth minute Lee Devitt's free kick was deflected off target by the head of Brian McManus.

Nine minutes later the students went close when Éanna Clancy got a flick on a low corner at the near post that was fortunately blocked by Mark Walsh to keep the game scoreless.

In the 29th minute, Lee Devitt struck a tame effort directly at Dara Kavanagh before the best chance of the half fell to the home side. Sean Brennan’s scuffed shot fell gloriously to Killian Callioce, but Corey Chambers was alert to shut down the danger and spread himself to block what would have been a certain goal.

On the stroke of half-time, Mikey McCullagh weaved through the Treaty defence with ease, but his shot was easily dealt with by Chambers to send the sides in scoreless at the break.

The students were dealt a hammer blow immediately after the restart as Killian Callioce was shown a straight red card for a high boot that connected with the head of Colin Conroy.

Four minutes later the visitors took the lead through Lee Devitt. The midfielder scored his 15th goal of the season after Mark Walsh cushioned a header into his path, and he easily dispatched it to the net.

In the 66th minute Ciaran Behan went close to levelling the game as his close-range free kick was well saved by Chambers. Five minutes later Jake Doyle burst through on goal, but once again Chambers stood tall to maintain Treaty’s clean sheet.

However, eight minutes from the time the students grabbed an equaliser through Adam Brennan. The youngster curled his shot into the top corner beyond the helpless Corey Chambers.

In the fifth minute of added time the home side almost snatched victory as Chambers mishandled an in-swinging corner. The Treaty goalkeeper then threw himself on the loose ball to prevent what would have been a certain winning goal.

Tommy Barrett’s men will return to action next Friday when they welcome second-placed Cobh Ramblers to the Markets field. Meanwhile, UCD will host Finn Harps.
