Treaty United extend unbeaten run in exciting home draw with UCD

Yoyo Mahdy netted from the penalty spot in Treaty United's draw with UCD in the First Division at the Markets Field on Friday evening

TREATY United’s unbeaten run has extended to four games following a 2-2 draw with UCD in the SSE Airtricity League First Division at the Markets Field on Friday night.

Treaty’s Yoyo Mahdy initially opened the scoring before goals from Adam Brennan and Stephen Mohan gave the visitors a temporary advantage. However, Evan O’Connor’s late strike salvaged a point for the hosts in their final home league game of the season.

Treaty’s 150th competitive game was the proverbial game of two halves. The hosts dominated the opening period while the Dublin students had the better of the second half.

Treaty took the lead as early as the fourth minute. The hosts were awarded a penalty after Adam Wells was adjudged to have blocked Lee Devitt’s shot with his hand.

A composed Mahdy converted the spot kick, sending UCD goalkeeper Dara Kavanagh the wrong way for his fifth goal of the season.

The visitors breathed a sigh of relief 11 minutes later when Treaty went close to doubling their lead. Devitt latched onto Colin Conroy’s pass before narrowly missing the target with a 20-yard curling shot.

Six minutes later, Treaty striker David Tarmey connected with Oisin O’Reilly’s delightful left-wing cross, but couldn’t direct his header on target. It remained 1-0 to the home side at the break.

The students restored parity three minutes after the restart, however. Hugh Parker teed up Stephen Mohan inside the box and the midfielder found the net with a first-time shot.

Treaty appeared to have restored their advantage on 56 minutes, only for Lee Devitt’s effort to be ruled out.

Yoyo Mahdy then rifled a 20-yard free-kick off the crossbar for Tommy Barrett's side before Devitt headed into the net. However, the linesman flagged the Treaty captain offside.

Treaty 'keeper Corey Chambers maintained parity on the hour mark when Hugh Parker connected with Wells’ cross but saw his looping header tipped over the crossbar by the home side's shotstopper.

UCD took the lead nine minutes later as Adam Brennen fired low to the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Treaty’s reinforcements off the substitutes' bench made a swift impact as the hosts got back on level terms 12 minutes from time.

Niall Holohan deflected Thomas Considine’s left-wing cross towards Evan O’Connor who fired home from six yards out.

UCD threatened again a few minutes later. Danu Kinsella Bishop released Mohan wide left, but the latter’s curling shot was easily dealt with by Chambers resulting in a stalemate.
