Janesboro beat Aisling to go second in LDL Premier Division

Aisling Annacotty 1 Janesboro 3

Janesboro moved into second place in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Aisling at Annacotty tonight.

The visitors had two chances to take the lead early on but efforts from John Tierney and Kevin Barry were well saved by Aisling keeper Stephen Walsh.

The home side took the lead when ace marksman Keith Mawdsley pounced on a back pass to blast home after 15 minutes.

Two moments of magic by John Tierney swung the game in Janesboro's favour on the half hour mark. On 28 minutes Danny O'Neill's cross from the right tempted Walsh from his line to punch away. The ball fell to Tierney wide on the left and spotting the keeper off his line he delicately chipped the ball over a host of covering defenders into the far corner of the net for the equaliser.

Before Aisling could recover they were hit again. Kevin Barry lay the ball back for Tierney and his poked effort caught the keeper stranded as it rolled into the net.

Gustavo Santos had a good chance to level before the break but blasted wide of the goal and the home side suffered another blow when Mawdsley hobbled out of the tie.

The second half failed to match the excitement of the opening 45 minutes but Tierney did go close to completing a hat trick. Again Walsh made a fine save.

With Aisling going for the broke they conceded a third when Danny O'Neill capped a memorable week by securing the three points.
