Cove Rangers goalkeeper Balint Demus’ equaliser dents Inverness’ promotion push

Cove Rangers goalkeeper Balint Demus dented Inverness’ William Hill Scottish League One promotion drive with a stoppage-time equaliser which denied the leaders victory.

Alfie Stewart’s 39th-minute strike from distance looked to have given the home side the points when Demus headed home Reuben McAllister’s corner in the fourth minute of added time to ensure it ended 1-1.

Substitute Ross Taylor ensured second-placed Stenhousemuir took full advantage with an 89th-minute free-kick to secure a 1-0 win at Peterhead which leaves them level on points with the Caley Jags, although having played a game more.

Substitute Ewan Loudon’s goal proved decisive as Montrose survived a late fightback to beat Alloa in a nine-goal thriller.

The visitors, for whom Callum Burnside scored a hat-trick, led 2-0 early on, but the hosts, who levelled through Taylor Sutherland and Kieran Freemen, went 5-2 ahead through Blair Lyons, Callum Sandilands and Loudon before Luke Donnelly and Burnside made it 5-4.

Nicky Clark’s double either side of a Reece Lyon strike handed Queen of the South a 3-1 win – their first in seven attempts – at HamiltoN, who had taken the lead through Oli Shaw.

Alex Ferguson’s 51st-minute penalty cancelled out Brian Easton’s first-half opener as bottom-of-the-table Kelty Hearts fought back to claim a 1-1 home draw against East Fife.

In League Two, Lewis Reid ended leaders East Kilbride’s seven-game winning run as Stranraer came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at the Eco Gen Stadium.

John Robertson had put the visitors ahead with a 12th-minute penalty, but Matthew Gillies levelled within seconds before Reid’s second-half header completed the comeback.

Marc McNulty’s penalty and a long-range strike from Mark Stowe saw second-placed Spartans reduce the gap to just two points with a game in hand as they also needed to show resolve, winning 2-1 after Kyle Connell had put Clyde ahead at the Vanloq Community Stadium.

First-half goals from Blair Alston Matty Allan and Aron Lynas eased Forfar to a 3-0 win at Stirling, while Tommy Goss plundered a hat-trick as Annan Athletic prevailed by the same score at home to basement boys Edinburgh City.

It finished 1-1 between Elgin City and Dumbarton after Leighton McIntosh’s header for the visitors cancelled out Ryan Sargent’s opener.
