Huddersfield play-off charge hit after goalless draw at Port Vale

Bottom side Port Vale and play-off hopefuls Huddersfield shared a low-quality goalless draw that did not offer much help to either side’s cause.

Huddersfield went close on 18 minutes after Sean Roughan’s quickly-taken long throw sent Marcus Harness racing into the Port Vale penalty box, Liam Gordon almost turned his ball across the face of goal into his own net before recovering to clear it off the line.

The hosts had another lucky escape in first-half stoppage time as Josh Feeney’s header off Lasse Sorensen’s well-delivered corner hit the crossbar.

But it had been a dull affair with no other real chances in between those two efforts, and that trend continued after the break as both sides huffed and puffed but were repeatedly frustrated by the opposition defence.

The result means Port Vale have a 13-point gap to safety to make up over their remaining games.

Huddersfield meanwhile remain sixth despite a fourth straight away game without scoring having overtaken Stockport on goal difference, but with County holding two games in hand.
