Dubem Eze’s rocket denies Gateshead valuable win

Dubem Eze came off the bench to score a stunning first Sutton goal and earn a 1-1 draw with struggling Gateshead in the National League.

Harry Chapman gave Gateshead the lead 29 minutes in as he drove into the penalty area and cut back onto his favoured right foot to finish into the far corner for his eighth league goal of the campaign.

Ash Boatswain thought he had extended his side’s lead to two however his strike was flagged for offside.

Sutton substitute Eze came on and made the impact the visitors needed as his long-range rocket levelled it up after 84 minutes.

Boatswain’s header rattled the crossbar as Gateshead sought in vain for a win to boost their survival fight.
