Mansfield fight back to earn point against Barnsley

Stephen McLaughlin snatched a stoppage-time equaliser as Mansfield fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with visiting Barnsley.

The Stags had previously won all three encounters since their promotion and were happy to grab another point towards safety in a thrilling finish.

Vimal Yoganathan fired a warning across Mansfield’s bows in the ninth minute with a shot from just outside the box that rattled the crossbar.

Tykes keeper Owen Goodman was then forced into two saves to deny Frazer Blake-Tracy and Rhys Oates.

But Barnsley broke through on 19 minutes as Tom Bradshaw laid back a ball from the left to tee up David McGoldrick for a low finish inside the right hand post from 22 yards.

Liam Roberts turned over a blistering Scott Banks effort on 28 minutes but will feel he could have done better on 52 minutes as Barnsley doubled their lead when Patrick Kelly found Scott Banks to his left and his shot powerfully zipped through the upright hands of the keeper as it flew straight at him.

Stags were back in it on five minutes later as Nathan Moriah-Welsh, only on for less than a minute as a substitute, was fouled by Banks and Lucas Akins smashed home from the spot.

In a frantic finish they then snatched a point four minutes into added time as a long Elliott Hewitt throw was headed out as far as McLaughlin who drilled home a superb finish from 12 yards.
