Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder insists his team will not be getting carried away after they beat Leicester 3-1 at Bramall Lane.
Goals from Japhet Tanganga, Tom Cannon and Callum O’Hare were enough to give the Blades a comfortable win, with Jordan James grabbing a consolation goal late on.
United have won three of their last four Championship matches, including back-to-back victories, but Wilder knows the hard work does not stop there.
“I think we were outstanding from the off, in and out of possession,” he said. “I’m only disappointed by conceding at the end.
“Leicester are arguably the strongest side in the division. They’ve got players who can hurt you but we didn’t give them anything.
“We’ve put in two really good performances in the last two games but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves. A lot of work has had to go into this group and you can get hurt if you take your foot off the gas and stop the intensity.
“I apologised to the players after the Wrexham game. Sometimes we need those little reminders and we’ve reacted well to that defeat.
“There’s still work to be done to balance the team out in January but I feel there’s a sense of togetherness in this group.
“I think that’s seven wins out of 10 now but we know what the Championship is like. It’s no good turning up against Stoke and Leicester if we don’t do the business against Oxford on Sunday.”
Leicester had very little going forward all evening and are now 19 games without a clean sheet in the Championship.
Manager Marti Cifuentes apologised to the fans for his side’s recent run of form.
“Today was disappointing as we wanted to start the new year well,” he said. “What happened today is we played against a team that showed more capacity to win duels.
“They definitely managed to get more momentum. The three goals are individual mistakes that cost us. It wasn’t a good performance, you shouldn’t need to concede two goals to show up.
“Emotionally, it is not easy when we have been through this many times. We can’t build that consistency.
“After the game, I understand that the fans want to show their frustration. I understand the frustration, it’s completely fair.
“There are certain things that I can share with the fans and some things that I can’t. What I can say is I’m sorry that we are in this difficult moment. We need to stick together.
“We only have four days until a difficult game against West Brom. We need to show a big reaction and that is what we will try to do.”
