Kelly N’Mai’s late goal earns Salford the points at Barrow

Kelly N’Mai’s late goal earned promotion-chasing Salford a hard-fought 2-1 win at Barrow.

N’Mai rounded off a sweeping move with a smart left-footed finish to go with an assist for the Ammies’ first-half opener.

Dan Udoh put Karl Robinson’s side in front, turning in N’Mai’s 11th-minute cross before then returning the favour seven minutes from time.

Barrow, who have not won at home in the league since September 20, will feel they deserved at least a share of the spoils which would have boosted their survival hopes.

Isaac Fletcher headed in a 20th-minute equaliser from Ben Whitfield’s delivery for his fourth goal of the season and second in successive festive games.

Salford, now 11 EFL games unbeaten against their Cumbrian hosts, almost snatched the lead back but Kallum Cesay’s header hit the crossbar and bounced over.

Jorge Grant’s second-half free-kick was pushed onto the bar by Wyll Stanway. Barrow countered and Scott Smith also struck the woodwork with a 67th-minute volley.

But it was N’Mai’s sixth goal of the season seven minutes from time that separated the sides.
