Stenhousemuir stay top with win but Spartans pegged back

Euan O’Reilly’s double helped Stenhousemuir record back-to-back Scottish League One wins with a 3-1 victory over Peterhead.

Although Andy McCarthy cancelled out Dale Carrick’s opener, O’Reilly restored Stenhousemuir’s advantage from the penalty spot and bagged his brace just minutes later to keep his side top of the standings.

They remain only one point clear of Inverness, who earned a 2-0 victory over Queen of the South with goals from Chanka Zimba after nine minutes and Luis Longstaff in stoppage time.

Hamilton ended their four-game winless run with a 4-0 triumph over strugglers Kelty Hearts.

The Accies stormed ahead to take a commanding 3-0 lead within the opening 20 minutes as Kyle MacDonald and Connor Smith both struck before Oli Shaw converted from the penalty spot.

Kelty were then reduced to 10 when Aaron Arnott was shown red and Smith extended Hamilton’s advantage after the break to wrap up three points.

Alloa returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win against bottom-of-the-table Cove Rangers, who are still searching for their first win.

Goals from Kurtis Roberts and David Devine secured a fourth win of the season for Alloa, despite Mitch Megginson’s second-half consolation for Cove.

Graham Webster cancelled out Brian Easton’s opener as East Fife drew 1-1 with Montrose.

Scottish League Two leaders Spartans were handed a blow after being beaten 3-1 by Stirling.

Stirling bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Elgin City with Ryan Shanley and Christopher Eadie scoring either side of a Ross Cunningham penalty.

Ayrton Sonkur’s goal in the 78th minute was mere consolation for Spartans but they stay top of the table after second-placed East Kilbride were held to a 1-1 draw against Dumbarton. Scott Tomlinson salvaged a point for Dumbarton by cancelling out John Robertson’s penalty.

Angus Mailer’s goal ended Forfar’s three-game losing run in the league as they earned a 1-0 win over Annan, who have now lost their last four straight league games.

Clyde also secured back-to-back league victories with a 2-1 win over Edinburgh City.

James Hilton sent Clyde ahead and though Jake Service equalised, Scott Williamson struck in the 80th minute to earn his side’s second win of the season.

Kane Hester salvaged a point for Elgin City to draw 1-1 with Stranraer.

Mark Russell put Stranraer ahead from the penalty spot but Hester struck in the 75th minute to keep Elgin seventh in the standings.
