Matty Stevens completes Wimbledon’s comeback as they hit back to beat Rotherham

Matty Stevens’ penalty helped AFC Wimbledon come from behind to beat Rotherham 2-1 in Sky Bet League One.

The visitors went ahead seven minutes before the break. Marvin Kaleta made a brilliant run down the right wing before cutting the ball back to Jordan Hugill, who took a touch before guiding the ball into the back of the net.

It should have been 2-0 shortly after, but Kian Spence failed to convert after being picked out in the penalty area by Shaun McWilliams.

The Dons came out firing after the break and they got their reward in the 50th minute when Jake Reeves produced an impressive finish with the outside of his boot into the bottom right corner.

Stevens headed over from the centre of the box as the hosts went on the hunt for a second goal.

The Dons won a penalty from a corner shortly after when Ryan Johnson was dragged to the floor by Hugill. Stevens converted the spot-kick in style in the 67th minute, firing the ball into the top left corner.

Rotherham’s Ar’jany Martha fired over the crossbar straight from the restart but that was his side’s best chance in the closing stages as they slipped to defeat.
