Graham Alexander felt Bradford deserved something from Wimbledon loss

Graham Alexander believes Bradford did not deserve to lose against AFC Wimbledon despite falling to a 1-0 defeat at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The Dons were a goal ahead at the break after James Tilley headed the ball past Bradford goalkeeper Sam Walker at the far post.

The visitors did not let their heads drop though, and had several chances to get back on level terms after half-time.

Alexander believes that both managers would have been happy with a draw.

“I think we were harshly done by over the whole piece, I think a draw would have been a fair result,” he said.

“A tough game, fine margins as we have spoken about and unfortunately for us, it has gone their way.

“I think we had as good a chance [as Wimbledon], a couple of opportunities in the first half where I think we should have done better and we started the second half really brightly.

“I think if we had drawn that game today then both managers would have said that that was a fair result, but that is how tight it can be.

“I spoke to the lads at half-time and said that we are kidding ourselves if we think we are going to go through every game without conceding.

“There is just another challenge for us, I wanted to see positive body language and I did not want to see any frustration or desperation in our play.

“There wasn’t, we started the second half exceptionally well and, as they always do, they fought to the end.

“I am gutted for today because I thought we deserved more.”

The result leaves The Dons in fourth place in the League Two table, while Bradford are now seventh.

Johnnie Jackson believes his side managed a difficult game against tough opposition well.

“I thought we managed the game, towards the end, really well,” he added.

“Look we know Bradford are going to come out at half-time, take the game to us to try and get back into it and we were ready for that.

“They had a couple of moments but we dealt with that.

“We sort of grew back into the game, the boys that came on did well and we looked like we had an energy about us.

“By the end, we were still pressing, we were forcing them backwards and I think that we looked more likely to get the goal than they did.

“We would have liked a second to make it more comfortable, but towards the end, I don’t think our goal was troubled too much.

“We recognise that we were going into a significant game, but it does not mean that next week is not as significant.

“We don’t talk about positions and stuff like that, we talk about the next game and what we are going to do.”
