TREATY United's outside hopes of making the promotion play-offs in the SSE Airtricity League First Division reaches a critical stage this Saturday evening with a trip to Longford, 7.30pm.

Despite scoring an impressive 4-1 victory over Athlone Town at the Markets Field last time out, Treaty United remain in seventh place in the First Division table, now eight points off the final promotion play-off position.

Tommy Barrett’s charges, who were level at 1-1 at half time with Athlone Town on Friday night after a Marc Ludden penalty equalised for the home side after 22 minutes, got back to winning wins after a Success Edogun goal and a brace from half-time substitute Stephen Christopher in the second half.

Treaty United have now just four games to go in their regular season, including Saturday's trip to Longford.

Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett admits it will be a tough task to secure a promotion play-off spot.

“I think it is a gap that is too big, but we will keep going,” said manager Barrett.

“It is going to be a tough task. We won’t give up obviously, but it is important as well to get lads on the pitch that haven’t played much. We have to blood some young fellas.”
