BALLYLANDERS and Moyross both went home with sliverware after the Limerick Women and Schoolgirls Soccer League (LWSSL) cup finals which took place at the Markets Field on Sunday last.

In the Open Cup final, Moyross faced Aishling Annacotty where 15 year-old Abbie Awaye was the huge talking point after a sensational performance.

Chloe Kenna got Moyross on the scoreboard with a goal in the first 20 minutes of the game. It took the majority of the first half for opposition, Aishling Annacotty to find an equalizer which they did through Zoe McInerney.

Almost straight away off the re-start the young sensation, Awaye broke up the pitch to score an incredible goal to put Moyross 2-1 ahead at the break.

Annacotty could not find an answer in the second-half with Awaye netting her second goal of the final to give Moyross the Open Cup final win.

In the second game of the day, Ballylanders came up against Herberstown in the Lyons Junior Cup final. It took half an hour for the teams to settle into the match with a flurry of goals coming from both sides, the first from Ballylanders Eidin Murphy after 25 minutes closely followed by Herberstown's answer through Vanessa Harty.

Landers found the last goal of the half through Brid Condon to put them 2-1 ahead at half-time. Herberstown attempted to fight back in the second-half with their second goal from Katie O'Meara but it was Ballylanders who were too strong in the end with goals coming from Briodhna Lee and a second from Brid Condon to guide them to victory.
