EY LIMERICK'S Data In Sport event, held at Thomond Park yesterday, explored how the application of data is changing the game of tomorrow by powering performance and participation, both on and off the field.
The purpose of the event was to highlight how data driven insights can empower coaches and players to develop a much deeper understanding of individual and team performance as well as informing split-second decision-making, often in in the heat of the game.
In parallel, powering business performance through data helps teams to collaborate and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead and is a catalyst for innovating to achieve greater efficiencies and positive outcomes.
The keynote speaker was Vinny Hammond, Head of Analytics and Innovation, Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU). Speaking at the event Vinny said.
"Performance improvement possibilities are endless with the use of data. Considering the evolution that has occurred over the past five years we cannot conceive the impact data will have on sports, business, and everyday life in the future.
The event also featured an insightful panel discussion ‘On and off the field’ The panel was comprised of several well-known figures from the worlds of – GAA, Rugby, Soccer and Hockey: Róisín Upton (Irish hockey team and Olympian), Mike Prendergast (Munster Rugby), Seamus Hickey (Former Limerick hurler), Eileen Gleeson (head of women’s and girls football, FAI)
