Limerick Athletics - Weekly News Update

Tom Walsh Memorial 10K

THERE was a turnout of almost 300 for the 2023 edition of the Tom Walsh Memorial 10K in Caherconlish.

Conor McCauley of Leevale AC was a comfortable winner of the Men’s race in a time of 31:35 followed in second by Rory Chasser of Ennis Track in 32:26. In third place Declan Guina was first Limerick Man in 33:32. 4th Shane Scully (Roses AC) 33:52, 5th Tadhg O’Sullivan (Bweeng Runners) 33:54, 6th Fergus Nugent (Eagle) 34:09.

Home favourite Dymphna Ryan, from Cappamore, took the Women’s ‘Gold Medal’ in 36:43, followed in second by Carol Finn of Leevale in 37:57. Angela McCann of Clonmel completed the podium in 38:14.

Fourth was recent ‘Border-Half’ winner Aisling Fitzgerald 38:49, 5th Shona Keane 39:12, 6th Sinead McDermott 40:16, F40 Aisling Fitzgerald, F50 Anne MacPhail, F60 Mary Mulcahy (St Finbarrs) 58:52, M40 Eugene O’Keefe (Carrick on Suir) 37:58, M60 Willie O’Donoghue (Moreabbey Milers) 37:32, M70 Tom Madden (Country Club)

Thanks Derek and Yvonne Casey plus all committee members, for the huge effort they made in organising this event. Thanks all volunteers and to those who provided the welcome hospitality in the Millennium Centre afterwards.

Various causes in the Caherconlish area will benefit from money raised from this event. If the late Tom Walsh was ‘looking down’ , he would have been proud. The Milford Hospice 10K takes place on 12th February from UL

Juvenile

Dooneen AC had three of their top female athletes competing in the National Junior and U23 Indoor Championships held in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena on Saturday.

Debbie Lawal finished 2nd in a highly competitive heat in the Junior 200m in a time of 25.83, missing out on  qualification for the final by one hundredth of a second. Victoria  Amiadamen was 1st in her heat in the Junior 400m in a time of 58.25 seconds and improved in the final with a time of 57.76 secs to finish 5th.

Sarah Butler was competing in the Junior ladies 800m clocked a fast time of 2:23:95 missing out on the final by over just 1 second.

For Limerick, AC Darragh Murphy took Silver in Junior Men's 200m (21.86). Aaron O'Connor took Bronze in junior Men's Triple Jump (12.17) Rosie Gavan was 3rd in her heat for  Junior women's 200m (26.31) Nathan Ndlovu was 4th in his heat for Junior Men's 200m  (24.29)


LIMERICK Juvenile athletes continue their training as they are preparing for the upcoming events of:

North Munster Schools Cross Country on Thursday Feb 2nd in Pallaskenry

Munster Juvenile U12 to U19 Indoor Championships in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 25th February and Sunday 26th February

Munster Juvenile Inter-Club Indoor relays U9 to U19 in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 4th March. Included here will be some Field events for u16 to u19 athletes

Munster Juvenile U9 to U11 Indoor Championships on Sunday 12th March in Nenagh Indoor Stadium
