Two Limerick wins in opening series of Kennedy Cup fixtures at UL

THERE were two Limerick wins in the opening series of fixtures at the SFAI Kennedy Cup at the University of Limerick on Monday evening.

There are three Limerick league sides competing in the five-day U14 interleague tournament, the Limerick District Schoolchildren League, the Limerick Desmond Schoolboy/girl League and the Limerick County Schoolboys and Girls League

In Group 5, Limerick District got off to winning start when recording a precious 1-0 victory over the Inishowen League. Craig Sheehan, of Fairview Rangers, set up Newport's Adan O'Shea for the only goal of the game in the 13th minute. 

District continue their round robin campaign on Tuesday at 12noon when taking on the Mayo League. Limerick District's final group game will be against the Wexford League at 6pm this Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in Group 7, Limerick Desmond recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over the West Waterford/East Cork League in their opening fixture on Monday evening. Precieux Malonga, of Newcastle West Town, proved the Desmond League hero after bagging a hat-trick of goals in the game. 

Desmond's second group fixture will be against the Dundalk League at 12noon on Tuesday, while the Limerick side round off their group games against the Dublin District Schoolboy League at 6pm on Tuesday.

In Group 4, Limerick County suffered defeat to an impressive Cork League side.

In their round two fixture this Tuesday morning at 10am, Limerick County will take on the Kildare League at 10am. 

Limerick County have a bye in the afternoon as this is a three-team group.
