Two Limerick schools advance to knockout stages of Dr Harty Cup

TWO Limerick schools have advanced into the knockout stages of the Dr Harty Cup.

Ardscoil Rís have advanced directly into the quarter-finals of the Dr Harty Cup. Niall Crowe's side won all their three of their group games. The city based side look like strong contenders to reach the final of the Munster post-primary competition.

Although, John The Baptist Community school were defeated by CBC Cork. It still proved to be enough for the Hospital side to reach the preliminary quarter-finals.Michael Martin's charges recorded a victory over Rice College and played out a draw with Doon during their group campaign.

Castletroy College needed a victory over Our Lady's, Templemore to secure their place into the knockout stages. Castletroy's defeat meant their Harty Cup campaign has came to an end for 2024. The city based school suffered a defeat to Ardscoil Rís in round one. Their victory over Colaiste Choilm wasn't enough to see them progress.

Doon needed an 18 point over Rice College, Ennis if they were leapfrog Hospital in group one of the Dr Harty Cup. Doon's heavy defeat to CBC Cork came against them and their draw with Hospital made things difficult for them.Rice College's victory over Doon meant that Ennis outfit finished in third place on two on two point. The east Limerick school finished in bottom place on one point.

CBC Cork finished top of group one and the Cork outfit have joined Ardscoil Rís in the last eight. The winner of Blackwater Community school or Cashel Community will join those teams in the last eight. That game takes place on Tuesday afternoon.

In the remaining three groups which consists of three teams in each group. A draw will take place between Midleton CBS, St Flannans and De La Salle College to see which team will take the final quarter-final spot.

The remaining two teams will join John The Baptist Community school, Our Lady's Templemore, Blackwater Community School or Cashel Community School, Neenagh CBS, Gaelcholáiste Mhuire an Mhainistir Thuaidh and Thurles CBS in the preliminary quarter-finals.

Those preliminary quarter-finals take place on December 4. The four winners will advance into the quarter-finals of the Dr Harty Cup which will take place on January 8. 

After those games, the semi-finals of the Harty Cup take place on January 18. February 1 will see two teams battle in the Dr Harty Cup final.
