The new Limerick Cancer Centre is in Ballygrennan, Moyross and has been developed by Whitebox

A NEW cancer centre in Ballygrennan, Moyross has been delivered on time and within budget over a year and a half.

Completed by Whitebox, the new cancer centre spanning across 30,000 square feet, marks a significant milestone in the development of an integrated health, residential and employment-led campus for Limerick and the wider Mid-West.

Delivered on time and on budget following an 18-month construction programme, the facility has been handed over to Aedfica, a Belgian-listed property investment company specialising in healthcare real estate across Europe.

Once fitted out, it will be run by CROAL, a UPMC and Bon Secours joint venture for the delivery of cancer treatment services.

The completion of the construction of the Limerick Cancer Centre represents the first significant private sector investment secured within the Moyross regeneration area.

It is the first major element of Whitebox's wider vision for Ballygrennan: a connected, mixed-use campus combining healthcare facilities, homes, local services and employment opportunities.

Martin White, chief executive of Whitebox, said: “Completing the build of what is a bespoke oncology centre for the Mid-West region is a milestone for Whitebox and for Ballygrennan. Moreover, it is a huge boost in terms of delivery of much needed cancer care services in Limerick and wider region.

“The project demonstrates that high-quality healthcare infrastructure can be delivered fast and efficiently in the Mid-West. It is also an important moment for Moyross as it is a tangible example of the quality and scale of investment envisaged through the area's long-term regeneration.”

Further plans for Ballygrennan include a 90-bed nursing home and there are master plans for a wider medical campus.

The wider programme will satisfy a key need for delivery of healthcare services in any region in Ireland today, housing for healthcare staff, with 115 new homes and a neighbourhood centre incorporating a coffee shop and drive-through pharmacy already underway nearby.

The homes are being delivered in partnership with Limerick City and County Council and Clúid through a mix of cost-rental, affordable and social housing.

Mr White added: “Together, these will create a place that can serve the community for the long term.”
