A plot in the Willowherb Garden costs €7,950, with an end of row plot going for almost €10,000.

LIMERICK is about to welcome a “completely new kind of cemetery” as the county’s first private park cemetery launches its first phase,

The first phase of Meadowstone, located in Castletroy, is launching this month, with plots available now.

The cemetery offers “the only opportunity to pre-purchase a grave in Limerick”.

“Reserving early secures the widest choice of location and interment type, spares your family a difficult decision at a time of grief and brings lasting peace of mind,” a spokesperson for the burial grounds said.

“Created for families who want a more thoughtful and dignified place for burial and remembrance, Meadowstone is conceived as a gently undulating park, where low earth mounds form intimate burial gardens.

“These enclosed spaces offer shelter from the elements and a sense of peace and privacy that open, exposed plots rarely permit.

Meadowstone is arranged around a central plaza, with burial gardens clustered close by.

Walking distances between parking, gathering spaces and graveside are kept to a minimum, in order to accommodate the elderly and less mobile mourners.

The plaza also provides a sheltered assembly space for those awaiting the funeral cortege.

The spokesperson explained: “Throughout the grounds, the four elements of earth, air, fire and water are woven into the landscape through wildflower meadows, native and pollinator-friendly trees, reflection pools and flame torches. Together, they create a calm, uplifting setting that sustains local wildlife.”

Meadowstone offers a range of interment options, each designed to honour different wishes, faiths and traditions, including traditional burial plots, columbarium walls, and ash burial plots.

“You can also choose from several garden settings, each with its own character, from sunlit meadows to quiet, tree-lined retreats, so you can find the place that feels like home for your family,” the Meadowstone spokesperson added.
