'More than one person per hour driving under the influence' amid Bank Holiday Weekend

Gardaí have detected hundreds of drivers breaking the law across the country

The Gardaí Bank Holiday Roads Policing Operation began on Thursday morning January 30th and is continuing until 7am on Tuesday morning February 4th.
During the last 24 hours of the operation, 264 drivers were detected driving in excess of the speed limit across the country.
Since Thursday morning last, 100 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
That's more than one person arrested per hour for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
An Garda Síochána is appealing all road users to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Drivers and all other road users are being reminded to plan ahead and organise a safe way home if socialising this weekend.
All drivers who are taking to the roads this weekend are reminded by Gardaí to slow down, take extra care and to give your driving your full attention.
