A US-bound flight from Belgium was forced to divert off course and land in Dublin after a medical emergency was reported aboard.
United Airlines flight UA951, a large commercial flight, was due to travel from Brussels to he US capital, Washington DC, and was passing over Irish airspace when a medical emergency was called in to Dublin Airport staff.
The Boeing 777-732, which was over Longford at the time, quickly turned around and made a swift landing in Dublin airport, where several fire engines and emergency service vehicles met staff and the sick passenger on the runway.

The passenger was taken off the plane shortly after landing at 1pm, and the plane was refueled.
Other passengers were stuck aboard the plane for almost three hours, before an opening allowed the plane to take off and continue its journey to Washington DC.
