'You said what?': Dominic West let's slip mother-in-law refused Kim Kardashian visit to GlinCastle

Dominic West and Catherine FitzGerald own Glin Castle since 2011

With one of the most recognisable names in the world and a net worth of an estimated $1.7bn (€1.5bn), Kim Kardashian would not be used to rejection.

However, Hollywood-actor Dominic West has revealed that his mother-in-law, Olda FitzGerald of Glin Castle, did just that and rejected the Kardashian’s request to stay at the west Limerick landmark in 2014.

Dominic let slip on the Travel Secrets podcast that the billionaire was refused entry to Glin Castle. The castle is owned by Dominic and his wife, Catherine FitzGerald.

He said: “Limerick is a great county and we’re on the North Kerry border, on the banks of the River Shannon, so it’s really beautiful.

“She [Kim] rang up my mother-in-law and said: “Can we come and stay at Glin?”

Laughing telling the story, Dominic said: “She [Olda] said, “I’m sorry, we’re closed.”

When Olda told Catherine and Dominic about the phone conversation, they were stunned, and said: “Who? You said what?”.

Kim had seemingly been looking to honeymoon in Ireland and more specifically, Limerick, with now ex-husband, Kanye West.

Dominic said that the then-newlyweds had no choice but to opt for a five-star hotel in Co Laois instead.

“Ballyfin Hotel is based on Glin and was owned by a wonderful American man, who bought it and restored it on the advice of my wife’s father,” Dominic said about the Kardashian/West’s second choice of honeymoon destination in Laois.

“I'm not sure they had a great time. They went and watched a film in Portlaoise town, which isn’t really glamorous,” Dominic said.

Glin Castle was taken over by Dominic and Catherine after her father, Desmond, the last Knight of Glin, died in 2011.

An annual open-day for the public to take a tour guide of the castle is taking place on Sunday, August 25. Tickets are €10 and will be available to purchase at the gates.
