RIP the Portal - tributes and flowers left at Dublin-New York portal by Spin presenters after temporary closure

Disorderly scenes, nudity and 9/11 imagery caused the now-infamous artistic link between Dublin and New York to be shut down temporarily this week.

RIP the Portal - tributes and flowers left at Dublin-New York portal by Spin1038 after temporary closure

Flowers and a tribute sign from radio station Spin1038 have been left at the foot of the infamous Dublin-New York portal, which is currently out of action due to "inappropriate behaviour".

The livestream portal between Dublin and New York was temporarily switched off on Tuesday as continued efforts are made to find solutions to address the behaviour in front of both installations.

Thousands of people had visited the two-way livestream portal, which gave a real-time view of New York from Dublin city centre. The portal has gone viral worldwide for wild scenes on both sides, including an American woman flashing Dublin onlookers, and images of 9/11 being displayed to unsuspecting New-Yorkers.

A sign left at the portal reads "RIP THE PORTAL", and displays the portal's short lifespan of the 8th to the 14th May. Below the date the sign reads "Sorry for mooning you".

The portal itself now reads "Portal is asleep - back up soon", so fans of the project can rest assured that it will return.

The hosts of Spin1038's Fully Charged morning show Emma, Dave and Aisling left the sign and flowers earlier today during a "special funeral", promising "a full eulogy" for the portal at 8am tomorrow.

Dublin City Council said of the temporary closure that a “preferred solution” involving blurring proved to be unsatisfactory and announced that the portal would be switched off at 10pm on Tuesday.

The council said a small minority of people have engaged in “inappropriate behaviour” which has been amplified on social media.
