Man dies in Roscommon crash involving car and lorry

A man aged in his 20s has died after a crash in Co Roscommon involving a lorry and a car.

The serious collision took place on the N61 Athlone Road at Newtown before 10pm on Wednesday.

The driver of the car was removed from the scene by ambulance to Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene has been closed and local traffic diversions are in place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene, and the local coroner has been notified.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage or dash-cam footage and were traveling on the N61 at Newtown at the time of the collision are asked to make footage available to gardai.

Separately, Gardai are renewing their appeal for witnesses to a collision in Ringsend, Dublin, in which a woman was fatally injured.

Shortly before 8am last Wednesday, March 20, a van hit a woman who was walking at the junction of Cambridge Road and Thorncastle Street.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was being treated at St Vincent’s University Hospital but passed away from her injuries on Saturday.

An Garda Siochana have appealed for witnesses or video footage from the area around the time of the incident.
