Met Éireann forecast for big change on weather front after -3 degree cold blast

Met Éireann is predicting yet another major swing in our weather this week after a cold and icy start to the week on Monday and Tuesday.

Some areas on high ground woke up to sleet and snow on Monday while Tuesday morning was once again frosty in many areas with the Midlands and south east experiencing the lowest temperatures of -3 degrees overnight.

However, despite a forecast for a brisk and breezy day on Wednesday, it looks as though temperatures will pick up and things will become more mild from Thursday onwards.

That's according to Met Éireann who says in its outlook that conditions will be "mild and breezy with scattered outbreaks of rain, mainly affecting Atlantic counties."

They say it will be "dry with clear spells tonight with lowest temperatures zero to 6 degrees, coldest and clearest across the east with some frost there. Light to moderate southwest winds will freshen later."

"Cloud, wind and rain will spread from the northwest southeastwards tomorrow [Wednesday]. Fresh to strong southwest winds ahead of the rain will veer westerly and moderate as the rain clears through the evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.

"Outbreaks of rain in the south and east will gradually clear to give clear spells overnight, with mostly dry conditions developing. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with frost and ice likely, in mostly light variable breezes.

"Cloudy across Atlantic counties with patchy mist and drizzle [on Thursday]. Dry elsewhere with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds."

They say Thursday night will be "mostly cloudy overnight with patchy rain and drizzle feeding in from the west. Mild with overnight temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

"Dull or overcast with scattered outbreaks of rain, heaviest across the west and northwest [to start on Friday]. A breezy day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. Mild and humid with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees."

On Saturday, they foresee "rain and showers over the southern half of the country with sunny spells further north. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees, in light to moderate southwesterly breezes."
